OLDHAM Athletic have confirmed they are in the process of renegotiating summer signing Jayson Leutwiler's contract.
There has been confusion and uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeper's absence from the opening games of the new season.
The former Blackburn Rovers stopper missed pre-season because of international duty and Canada's run to the semi-finals of the Gold Cup.
He returned ahead of the opening game of the League Two season, but has been absent from all the teamsheets, with Danny Rogers starting in goal.
However, an injury to Rogers has led to Latics securing the return of Laurie Walker on an emergency loan from MK Dons.
And the situation has prompted the club to shed some light on Leutwiler's absence, with an administrative error surrounding the conditions of the club's transfer embargo the cause of the confusion.
Rumours have been circulating that Leutwiler could be loaned out.
However, Latics are confident that the 32-year-old will remain with the club and a new deal will be struck.
A statement released by the club read: "Due to an unfortunate misinterpretation of the full terms of the monitored EFL loan Oldham Athletic are having to renegotiate with Jayson.
"Both parties are confident that a solution will be found soon and are keen for him to represent the club on the pitch at the earliest available opportunity.
"In the meantime the club is fully supporting Jayson and remains in training to ensure he is match ready when a resolution is found."
But until new terms are finalised, Leutwiler cannot be selected, so Rogers' injury has prompted Latics to call on a familiar face.
Walker finished the season at Boundary Park on a rolling emergency loan deal from MK Dons last season, after Ian Lawlor - who was on loan from Doncaster Rovers - suffered a season ending injury in March.
Walker made 13 appearances for Latics, going on to earn a new deal with MK Dons, where he started the season in a 3-3 draw with newly promoted Bolton Wanderers.
He has returned to Boundary Park on an emergency seven-day loan and went straight into the starting line-up for tonight's game at Bristol Rovers.
