A FRUSTRATED John Sheridan felt Latics did not do enough to warrant the win in a relegation six-pointer at Colchester United that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Oldham took a 19th minute lead through in-form Davis Keillor-Dunn, the top scorer converting from close range after Carl Piergianni headed on Nicky Adams' free kick.

But Sheridan was disappointed to see his side take their foot off the gas in the second half and allow their fellow strugglers back into the game through a Noah Chilvers shot that deflected in off Jordan Clarke.

Latics remain unbeaten under Sheridan, as the point stretched their recent run to six games without defeat since the club legend returned to take charge. However, a win for Carlisle United, who are the visitors to Boundary Park next weekend, consigned Oldham back to the bottom two.

"To be truthful I didn't enjoy watching it, especially in the second half," said head coach Sheridan.

"We got ourselves in a good position with a goal in the first half and felt comfortable as well first half.

"So obviously going in with the advantage, we had a great chance as well to make it 2-0, so we were quite comfortable going in at 1-0.

"We got ourselves in a winnable position. But I thought we were really poor in the second half.

"I thought we were scrappy, we didn't use the ball the way we should have, too many long balls for my liking.

"We didn't control the game. We're in a position and we know the importance of trying to get the three points and I didn't think we controlled the game and we allowed Colchester to be on the front foot more than what we were."

But Sheridan recognised the significance of staying unbeaten.

"We are going home with something," he continued.

"We're doing well on set plays, scoring goals, good delivery and we're a threat.

"It was a great ball and Skip (Piergianni) does what he's good at and attacks the ball and Davo has a little tap-in.

"We had one or two more balls that went across the box and H (Hallam Hope) has had a great chance to make it 2-0.

"The goal's very fortunate on their part, it takes a deflection and it goes in.

"We defended when we had to defend, we got blocks, but we were really scrappy.

"I'm disappointed but we've got a point and getting closer to one or two teams. I've seen the table and it's very tight.

"It's going to be a long haul but we're capable of doing it."
