OLDHAM Athletic are braced for a fresh offer from Burnley for Harry Vaughan.
The 17-year-old was fast-tracked to a first team contract last year while he was still a first team scholar and has quickly made an impact on Latics' first team.
And that has grabbed the attention of a number of clubs, with the Premier League Clarets keen on the attacking midfielder.
Latics turned down Burnley's offer of around £200,000 for Vaughan in the summer, but there was always the likelihood that they would return with an improved bid in the January transfer window.
The Clarets maintained their pursuit of Oldham's Academy ace during the first half of the season, and with the recent sale of striker Chris Wood for £25million to Newcastle United they are looking to use some of that cash to replenish their squad and build for the future at Turf Moor.
Vaughan has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, and spent time training with Manchester City's Academy at the end of last season.
Oldham owner Abdallah Lemsagam was determined to hang on to Vaughan in the summer but with the club seeking to recover some of the ongoing cost of the Covid-19 pandemic, and general running costs of the club and improved offer is likely to be considered.
Vaughan’s departure would also free up a place in a squad that is restricted in size due to the transfer embargo enforced by the club’s loan agreement with the Football League, unless the 17-year-old is loaned back to Latics for the remainder of the season.
Vaughan has kicked on following his breakthrough season last year. Having caught the eye with his cameo appearances from the bench last term, he made his full debut in the Carabao Cup second round penalty shoot-out win over Accrington Stanley earlier this season, scoring his first senior goals - against Harrogate in the league and the winner against Sunderland in the Papa John’s Trophy, while he has also received international recognition with the Republic of Ireland Under 19 and Under 18s age groups.
Vaughan was handed his senior debut by former Latics head coach Harry Kewell last February, following some impressive performances for the club’s Under 18s.
Vaughan made his bow from the bench in a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Barrow, as a 75th minute replacement for second half substitute Marcus Barnes.
He went on to make a further five appearances from the bench, the last four of which were on Keith Curle's watch, with the then head coach awarding Vaughan his first professional contract.
Vaughan is also understood to be on the radar of Everton, QPR, Borussia Monchengladbach and Real Sociedad.
