SELIM Benachour praised Oldham Athletic's never-say-die attitude in rescuing a point at home to Forest Green Rovers.
Latics went ahead through Davis Keillor-Dunn's 11th minute wonder goal but were quickly pegged back by the League Two leaders, who then raced into a 3-1 half-time lead.
Matthew Stevens made it 4-1 early in the second half.
But Hallam Hope lifted Latics when he came off the bench to score only his second goal for the club, while Keillor-Dunn's second of the afternoon reduced the deficit further.
Stevens increased Forest Green's cushion just after the hour, but Jack Stobbs closed the gap again with his first for Oldham.
Latics maintained the pressure and were rewarded when Kane Wilson directed the ball past his own goalkeeper to earn the first point since Benachour took interim charge last month.
"It was a great game. As I was saying to the players we gave everything, we never gave up," he said.
"Even at 4-1 it was terrible for us, half an hour left, difficult situation, and they never gave up. They go and they fight and they fight and I am very proud.
"We saw a lot of character, a lot of personality today, and I think this kind of game will give us a lot of confidence for the next few games."
Latics have seldom shown such ruthlessness in front of goal this season.
Asked how he had gone about triggering such a remarkable turnaround, Benachour explained: "At half-time I gave them a lot of confidence to come back. I saw players who wanted to fight and come back to draw or even win. They did it on the pitch.
"I think the subs were also good, they gave me a good answer. Stobbs scored and Hallam Hope scored, Harry (Vaughan) played well. I think we made the right changes in the right moment and they helped us a lot.
"I also want to reward the fans, they never gave up. At 4-2, 4-3 they still supported us. It's a game we will never forget, against the leaders.
"Forest Green are a very good team. We showed a lot of character and personality and I think it will be
"I have a lot of expectation with this team and I am very proud tonight."
