DYLAN Bahamboula had a second half penalty saved as Latics came back from behind to draw with Ipswich Town in the FA Cup first round and force a replay.
League One Ipswich took an eighth minute lead through Wes Burns.
Macauley Bonne had just had a header saved by Jayson Leutwiler when he went for goal again with a curled effort. But before it could reach its intended target of the far corner Burns met the ball in the middle of the area and diverted it into the roof of the net.
Leutwiler was required to make saves from Bonne and Bersant Celina, but Latics showed their mettle and dug, and there were chances for Carl Piergianni and Bahamboula before Davis Keillor-Dunn produced a terrific equaliser.
The attacking midfielder worked his way to the edge of the box and curled a finish inside the far post to make it 1-1 four minutes before the break.
With their tails up, Benny Couto had a free kick stopped by goalkeeper Christian Walton before Cameron Burgess denied Jordan Clarke a chance at goal with a block.
Latics picked up where they had left off and we’re awarded a penalty less than 10 minutes into the second half.
It was unclear what exactly the spot kick had been given for, although Janoi Donacien picked up a booking.
Bahamboula stepped up to take it but Walton guessed the right way and saved from Latics’ playmaker.
Both sides had openings in the remainder of the 90 minutes, with Ipswich substitute Conor Chaplin caused the most problems for Latics. But Keith Curle’s side held firm to force a re-match at Boundary Park later this month.
