Striker Kane Drummond's loan spell at Oldham Athletic has been cut short after being recalled by parent club Chesterfield.

The striker has made 10 appearances for Latics since arriving on loan from the League Two club in September.

The deal was scheduled to expire on January 5, to help Oldham through a busy December and festive period, but injuries in the Chesterfield camp have prompted manager Paul Cook to get Drummond back to the SMH Group Stadium a month earlier than planned.

It is possible Latics will now look to strengthen their attacking ranks, with forward numbers dwindling.

Manager Micky Mellon has only four strikers at his disposal in top scorer Mike Fondop, James Norwood, Joe Garner and Josh Stones, whose current loan deal from Wigan Athletic runs out in the new year so that could leave Latics down to three.

Alex Reid is on loan at Wealdstone until January 5, although is not permitted to play against his parent club when the teams meet at Boundary Park on Saturday week.

Of Drummond's departure, a Latics spokesman said: "The club would like to thank Kane for all his efforts during his time at the club and wish him the best for the future."
