There was another comprehensive victory at Boundary Park on Tuesday night with a 4-0 dismantling of Boston United.
All the damage was done really in a blistering first half hour or so when we were superb with Josh Lundstram leading the way with a goal and an assist.
Just like against Tamworth, it very much seemed like there was more to come and, in seemingly taking our foot off the gas a little, we did allow Boston a chance or two, which Mat Hudson had to be alert to. But, in truth, we were never really put under any pressure severe enough to threaten the three points.
James Norwood and Josh Stones again looked great together up front and were rewarded with a goal apiece.
Stones coolly scored the third as we came out of second gear for the last third and Mike Fondop’s penalty put some gloss on a deserved victory, moving us up into fourth position in the table.
It was a thoroughly professional display, once again led by the excellent Sam Clucas in the middle, with Tom Conlon also deserving of a mention for an all action display alongside him.
The back three kept another clean sheet and the Reagan Ogle, Charlie Raglan and Manny Monthe trio have really become a formidable backline for oppositions to try to pass.
Micky Mellon said after that there is more to come from us and I totally agree. These last two victories have been carried out with ease and I really believe the best is yet to come when we play our rivals in the league.
Of course last weekend, we had the disappointment of the Rochdale game being postponed.
I’d just arrived on the train in Manchester and was having my first pint when the news came through so I had to make a decision on whether to go home early or find another match. Joining the Yeovil Town fans in the away end at York City was great, they were in good humour all game despite the scoreline and having two sent off.
One thing the match told me again though, just as when I streamed their game against Hartlepool, was that we have absolutely nothing to fear from York, as also demonstrated by their comprehensive defeat at Altrincham on Tuesday.
There is a long break from league action now and visits down south to Leyton Orient in the FA Cup and up towards me to Stockton in the FA Trophy are next on the agenda for Latics so talk of promotion and promotion rivals can be put on hold for a while, with Saturday providing a good opportunity to get through to the third round and the chance of a draw against one of the big boys of the Premier League.
