Oldham Athletic celebrated back-to-back 4-0 wins at home but manager Micky Mellon said: 'The best is yet to come'.

Latics were 2-0 up at the break against Boston United thanks to goals from Josh Lundstram and James Norwood, with Josh Stones scoring his first in the league since his return on loan from Wigan, and Mike Fondop completing the scoreline with an emphatic spot kick.

A fourth consecutive clean sheet in the league capped a comfortable night at Boundary Park.

But Mellon said that despite the dominant nature of recent performances they had not yet hit full throttle.

"To score goals and get clean sheets is really encouraging at any time of the season. We've just got to keep going," said the Latics boss.

"We know that we can keep getting better and that's the exciting thing I think. We know that there's still improvement within the group.

"But it's encouraging to win at home in front of your own supporters and it's obviously encouraging to keep getting wins."

As well as the goals further boosting goal difference on the back of the 4-0 win over Tamworth last time out at Boundary Park, Mellon took equal pleasure in the clean sheet.

"We're proud and we want to defend well. Mat (Hudson) has had to make a couple of saves - he made a good save at 1-0.

"The players work their socks off so it's nice to see it come to fruition.

"We work really hard on it, we don't just fling them on the pitch.

"All the principles of what we want to do we see because we drum them into them every day so that we can be a team. We want to be able to know what we're all trying to achieve when we've got the ball and when we haven't got the ball. It's good to see it come together."

Mellon added: "We're not going to get carried away, we know the next game is always going to be the toughest one no matter who you play so we'll get rested up.

"I'm not trying to be a killjoy or anything, we have to keep our feet on the floor and keep trying to win games of football.

"But I'm pleased for the players and pleased for the supporters. and for us to play some good football and score some good goals.

"We'll enjoy the evening but tomorrow we get going again."
