Oldham Athletic is set to start reducing cash use at Boundary Park.

The club says this move will lead to "significantly shorter queuing times, improved hygiene for staff and supporters, and a more efficient administration process for the club".

It also aims to cut down on security and logistical issues related to handling cash on matchdays.

The club believes that by embracing cashless operations, it can better allocate resources, improve revenue tracking, and ensure that supporters have a more "streamlined and modern experience" across all stadium facilities.

The transition to a cashless system will see more options for card payments, including at the turnstiles.

Starting from the home game against Tamworth on November 16, some turnstiles have begun to accept card payments.

Cash will still be accepted at these turnstiles, with clear signs indicating where cards can be used.

By January 1, Oldham Athletic plans for all turnstiles to accept card payments only, although cash can still be used to buy tickets at the ticket office.

The club continues to encourage fans to buy their match tickets online, which can be shown on a mobile device for entry.

This method also offers cheaper prices if tickets are bought before matchday.

Currently, card-only payments are accepted at matchday kiosks and for entry to the club's car parks on non-matchdays.

From January 1, this will extend to the Broadway Suite, Supporters Bar, Legends Lounge, and matchday car parks, where only card payments will be accepted.

Cash payments will still be taken at the Athletic Store and the Ticket Office until further notice.

These changes reflect industry-wide trends, prioritising 'convenience and safety' for visitors to Boundary Park.

The club plans to provide more details before the New Year.

Club staff will "be on hand" to help fans adjust to these changes as they come into effect.
