GRAND Final winner Iain Thornley says he will “give everything” for Oldham after he put pen to paper to a two-year deal, Kasey Smith.

The 33-year-old is fresh from a triple trophy-winning year with Wakefield Trinity who won both the League Leaders Shield and Championship Grand Final as well as an 1895 Cup win.

And the experienced Thornley is hoping to continue the success he’s tasted throughout his career as he makes the switch to Oldham.

“I want to be part of clubs that have ambitions,” said the centre. “At Wakefield we won all three trophies and got promoted – and Oldham want to do something similar.

“I will give everything for the club. I pride myself on my defence and taking the ball in hard – I cannot wait for that first game.

“I have won Challenge Cups and Grand Finals with Wigan and been part of the Challenge Cup final team at Catalans. Last year was very special with Wakefield too. I have learned that you should never stop learning.”

For Wigan-born Thornley it will be his second stint with Roughyeds having made his debut for the club where he scored a try against Doncaster in the Challenge Cup in 2023.

He brings with him a wealth of top-flight experience, having won the Super League and Challenge Cup with Wigan in 2013 and over 100 appearances in the top flight.

Thornley who can also operate on the wing was also part of the Catalans Dragons squad which lifted the Challenge Cup in 2018.

Head Coach Sean Long said the signing would aid his efforts in creating a winning mentality at the club which heads for the championship next year.

“He is a winner,” said the Roughyeds boss. “I want a winning culture with good people who want to work hard and put the team first. He fits that bill.”

Elsewhere, Oldham have announced the departures of Jordan Paga, Mackenzie Turner and Kieran Tyrer.

Paga and Turner both had another year to run on their contracts but have been granted a release to sign elsewhere.

Turner has agreed a one-year deal with Hunslet after a successful loan period while Paga – the 2023 Fans’ Player of the Year, is expected to sign for a League One side.

Tyrer, who did not make an appearance for Oldham this year and spent time at Widnes on loan, will play for Cumbrian side Whitehaven.

Oldham thanked the trio, who struggled for gametime last season, for their efforts and wished them well for the future.
