A disabled Oldham Athletic fan has shared his frustration at trying to purchase tickets to see the Latics' match against Rochdale later this month.

Tickets recently went on sale for Oldham's allocation at the Crown Oil Arena for the meeting of the local rivals on Saturday, November 23.

However, disabled fan Aaron Diskin said his experience of trying to secure tickets, saying he and other disabled Latics fans have been treated in an unacceptable way and feel that they have been discriminated against.

On Thursday, Mr Diskin shared on social media that Rochdale had not sent any disabled tickets, which he labelled "discrimination".

On Friday, however, the club said a "number of tickets for disabled fans and carers" are on sale for visiting fans.

Mr Diskin added that he was given two separate explanations from Rochdale, the first being that the tickets were not made available due to crowd trouble during the meeting of the two sides last season, while the second explanation was only eight wheelchair tickets available which are always held back.

He added: "We were then informed that we would need to pick up our tickets on the day from the ticket office. Meaning additional arrangements would have to be made, which as a disabled supporter is not as simple as it may seem.

"Whilst the process at football clubs up and down the country certainly needs work, we wanted to highlight the additional steps and unfair treatment disabled supporters receive when just trying to carry out the simple task of supporting the club we love.

"We hope that Rochdale and other clubs take note that this sort of treatment is not acceptable and look forward to a much better experience in the future."

A spokesperson for Rochdale AFC said: "We can confirm that a number of tickets for disabled fans and carers are available for visiting supporters to purchase for our match against Oldham Athletic.

"In last season’s fixture between the clubs at the Crown Oil Arena, supporters encroached into the area where disabled fans sit within the visiting section, providing a serious risk to safety.

"With this in mind, both clubs made a joint decision that the best course of action was for Rochdale to sell tickets for disabled sections directly to visiting supporters, in an attempt to avoid the same scenario occurring again this season.

"Rochdale AFC fully supports the principle of equal opportunities and opposes all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination on the grounds of disability.

"The matchday experience is important to everyone.

"We appreciate that disabilities are wide-ranging and that not all are visible. It is our aim to ensure inclusivity and understanding for all."
