Oldham Athletic forward Alex Reid has joined National League side Wealdstone on loan until January.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour under manager Micky Mellon, leading to him making only four appearances since the last time he started a game in November last year.

A number of clubs have enquired about the striker, who is out of contract at the end of this season, but it seemed that he was set on staying at Boundary Park and fighting for his place.

However, the recent loan signings of forwards Jack Stretton and Kane Drummond have pushed Reid even further down the pecking order.

"Alex is a proven goalscorer at this level and we are delighted to bring him in on loan from Oldham," said Wealdstone boss Matt Taylor.

"At 29 years of age he has lots of experience and from speaking to him I know just how excited he is to score goals for Wealdstone."

Alex Reid became popular among Oldham fans after signing from Stockport in December 2022, celebrating goals and wins with a W hand sign and using the phrase 'Ws in the chat' on social media.

But it was his regular posts on Instagram and TikTok that got him into trouble last Christmas, when he uploaded a story from Oldham's training ground changing room on Christmas Day.

Reid was suspended by the club on Boxing Day amid an internal investigation.

The forward served a seven-day suspension and returned to training after recovering from a minor injury but has struggled to force his way back into Mellon's plans.

Reid has agreed a deal with second bottom Wealdstone until January 5, 2025, and goes into their squad to face Gosport Borough in the FA Cup on Saturday.
