James Norwood was one of a number of absentees from Oldham Athletic's defeat to Solihull Moors.

Manager Micky Mellon said the striker had "reported a calf problem" ahead of the game which ended Latics' eight-game unbeaten run in the National League.

Callum Dolan also missed the 3-2 defeat with an injury that Mellon expects to rule the midfielder out until later this month.

Defender Shaun Hobson was also sidelined after suffering a broken foot in Oldham's first National League Cup game, at home to Stoke City Under 21s, on Tuesday night.

"Unfortunately Shaun Hobson's picked up an injury, which could happen on the training ground to be honest, there was no contact, he's just landed on his foot and unfortunately he's broken a bone in his foot so he's going to be out for a wee while.

"He's a fit lad, but I don't want to put time on that.

"I spoke to him the other day and said 'I'm gutted for you and I'm gutted for us', but we all have to move on now, him included. We all have to move on and look at what we're going to do moving forward with him and what we're going to do moving forward as a team without him, until that day comes when we get him back again, which will be like a brand new signing.

"I'm always looking at the positives of it all, but I'm disappointed for him and us that we're going to lose a player that is a big part of what we're doing here."

Of Norwood's absence for the visit of Solihull, Mellon said: "Norwood has reported a calf problem."

Of Dolan's omission from the squad, the Scot added: "Callum is injured and will be out for a couple of weeks."

Oli Hammond also watched the game from the stands but Mellon said that was a squad decision and not tactical.

"We needed to get a defender on there so big Will (Sutton) came in because more or less the players were pretty much attacking," he explained.
