Micky Mellon says there has been no secret ingredient to Oldham Athletic's winning run, just good, honest graft.

Latics go into tomorrow's home game with Solihull Moors unbeaten in nine in all competitions, having won four in a row in the National League.

Mellon's men have progressed from a run of four consecutive 1-1 draws to find a way to win.

But the Oldham boss insists he has not waved a magic wand to turn one point into three, but instead tried to instil in his players the importance of doing the basics well.

"We just don't complicate it, we just keep trying to play the best we can," said the Scot.

"We have been playing well for a while now, it's just about keeping that back door shut and getting as many clean sheets and defending as well as possible and taking our chances at the other end.

"We've been creating a lot of chances, it's just going to be continually that and not getting carried away.

"We don't believe we've found any formula other than pure hard work."

Latics entertain a Solihull side who reached the play-off final last season, but whose form has been indifferent so far this term.

However, mid-table Moors arrive at Boundary Park boasting a four-game unbeaten run on the road.

"It will be another tough game," said Mellon. "They're all really tight and nothing much between all or most of the clubs now.

"I think it's the most competitive National League in terms of the amount of teams that can make the play-offs, minimum, at the end of the season.

"It's the most competitive National League that I've seen for a while in my time."
