As a striker, Mike Fondop wants to take every chance that comes his way.

But this weekend's visit of Yeovil Town offers even more incentive for the 30-year-old to add to his early three-goal tally.

For it coincides with a special visit, and a special visitor for Fondop.

"It will be a big game for me for personal reasons because it will be the first time that my father has ever come to the UK and the first time he will watch me play professional football, and he will be there on Saturday by God's grace," he explained.

"I am very excited and I only want it to be a good experience for him and for myself.

"It's quite an emotional week and I would be very happy to score in front of him on Saturday if that's the case."

With his family thousands of miles away, it is a significant moment for Fondop, who is Latics' current top scorer with three goals, and helped the team secure an important and much-needed win at Woking last weekend.

"Apart from my fiancee and my daughter and my in-laws I haven't really had direct family members come and watch me play because most of them are in Cameroon," he said.

"To have someone there it's a massive thing for me."
