Yeovil Town took a chance on Otis Khan and gave him his first real start in professional football.

Now the attacking midfielder will be hoping for a second chance with Oldham Athletic.

Khan had impressed on his Latics debut at home to Southend United almost a fortnight ago, earning the corner kick that led to Mike Fondop's equaliser soon after his introduction from the bench.

But just three days later he was needlessly sent off for two yellow cards, just over 20 minutes after replacing Callum Dolan in the 1-1 draw at Halifax Town.

As a result, Khan missed the weekend win at Woking. But he will be hopeful of a chance to redeem himself against the club that gave him his big break in the game when his former and current employers go head to head at Boundary Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

"I have really good memories from my time at Yeovil," he said.

"Darren Way was my first manager who gave me my chance in professional football.

"I remember my first conversation with him when I signed. He showed me my CV on Wikipedia and obviously there weren't too many games on there, and he said 'We need to get you games' and that's exactly what he did.

"A lot of credit goes to the club and the manager for giving me that opportunity."

Khan, a product of Sheffield United's academy, signed from Barnsley in the summer of 2016 and scored on his Glovers debut in a 2-0 home win over Notts County. He finished that campaign with eight goals and improved on that with 10 the following term.

"I had two great years there and played some great football under (Way)," added Khan, who signed for Latics last month following a successful pre-season trial.

"There are a few familiar faces who play for them now and I'm looking forward to playing against them and it will be nice to see them.

"But as soon as the whistle goes it's everything for Oldham.

"I'm an Oldham player now and I need three points for Oldham. This is where I'm committed."

Of his personal hopes for the season, Pakistan captain Khan said: "Just to get as many games as I can and contribute goals and assists and try to start a lot of games.

"It's a very good squad, all I can do is work hard and wait for my opportunity, "In training everyone's working hard and wants to be in the starting XI. We've got good quality in depth in the team.

"There have been a few injuries, Harry Charsley went off (against Southend), there are people ready to come on. It's just about waiting for the opportunity and doing well when you come on."

Meanwhile, after back-to-back home games, against Yeovil on Saturday and Forest Green Rovers the following Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm), Latics are back on the road again, away to Ebbsfleet United on September 28 (kick-off 5.30pm).

This game was moved to an early evening kick-off after being selected for live broadcast by DAZN.
