Oldham Athletic Women celebrated their first competitive win.

Holly Espie's side suffered defeat in their opening game, away to Mancunian Unity B, after an unblemished pre-season.

But they bounced back in style to record a 3-1 win away to West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves on Sunday, with Thaila Morley grabbing a brace and Holly Forder-Brown on the scoresheet also.

And assistant manager Kyle Horton was delighted to get their first three points on the board in the Greater Manchester Football League.

"It was a pleasing performance for the second game of the season," he said.

"We started positively from the first whistle. Towards half-time the opposition adapted well to the way we played, but we maintained our 1-0 lead (at half-time).

"In the second half we managed to build on our success relating to the principles that we have been reinforcing over the last week to cause more problems to the opposition."

And Latics Women are particularly pleased with the progress that Forder-Brown, an under 18s player from the recently established women's academy.

And Espie feels her contribution to the women's team even at this early stage represents the opportunities that are available at Boundary Park.

"It's really exciting to see Holly from the U18s and the college programme feature.

"She held her own and broke the deadlock with a fantastic and composed finish, followed by Thai in the second half - to players we really missed in our opening fixture.

"It was disappointing to give away a goal and not keep a clean sheet, but that is something we have been and will continue to work on.

"We are still new and adjusting to the league, building key relationships on the pitch as well as waiting for key players to return."

Having recovered from their opening day 1-0 defeat to register their first win, Espie added: "There are many positive moments in both games, but also a lot to build on and that's the key message we are getting across to the players.

"I'm really pleased to see us bounce back and be able to manage the game, especially when West Didsbury created some really key opportunities and posed a threat in some key moments within the game.

"We continue to look forward to the next game and look what we can build on in training."
