Micky Mellon is not expecting to make any imminent additions to his Oldham Athletic squad.

The Latics boss has welcomed nine new signings since the end of last season, with 12 players leaving at the end of their contracts and a further five players moving on either on loan or permanently as the Scot executed the squad overhaul he promised.

There was speculation about a return for Josh Stones from Wigan Athletic last week, to take the incomings at Boundary Park into double figures. That move did not materialise before the Football League transfer window deadline, but remains a possibility going forward, with Latics still keen to work with the young striker again.

However, Mellon told The Oldham Times that he was not anticipating any immediate changes to his squad.

If something came up and we thought there was an opportunity to do it and it was realistic then I'm sure we would have a discussion about that. There's nothing imminent.

"We'll carry on with this group," he said.

"I think we've brought good players here and I think I've improved the players that have stayed - along with the players showing the right attitude to improve.

"Everything's very positive. We've got a good group of players who are getting better all the time and the ones that have added to that, and the improvement in the ones who are still here, is plain to see."

Asked whether loan deals would be most likely at this stage if they were to recruit, Mellon said: "I really don't know. We'll look at anything, but at the minute there's nothing doing."
