Defender Charlie Raglan said the players owed it to Latics' supporters, as well as themselves, to bounce back from their first defeat of the season.

More than 300 made the journey to Aldershot on Saturday, where Raglan admitted the team had been "dismantled" in a 4-1 loss.

But Raglan was pleased with the response they gave against in-form Gateshead 48 hours later to secure a point ahead of important games at Altrincham and at home to Southend.

"Overall we're pleased with a point, with the quick turnaround and the disappointment from Saturday. We had to react and put on a better performance in front of our fans," said the vice captain.

"We had enough chances, especially in the second half, we played a lot better, more on the front foot and I can't remember them having too many chances.

"They're a good side and have a lot of quality in the way they play so they can always create something, so it would have been nice to take one of those chances. I don't mean put the game to bed because there wasn't much in it, they're a good side and I think in the second half we showed we are a decent side, still a lot to do but we should be up there."

And Raglan feels the Aldershot result could prove to be a timely wake-up call.

"Saturday was a massive disappointment, but part of our jobs is to react and to be professional and identify what went wrong," he added.

"We had to take it on the chin and hopefully that will make us better moving forward.

"It's a lesson for us and maybe it's happened at this stage of the season and that will ensure that something like that doesn't happen again.

"We'll say we've had a decent start, we've picked up four results in five, we would have liked to have got more points but we'll take that and move on."
