Avro FC announced the signing of forward Mike Phenix, writes Rob Currell.
The former Salford City man has been a proven goal scorer during The RO’s pre-season and did enough to impress the new joint management team of Mike Norton and David Birch who offered him a deal.
Phenix has previously played for other clubs including Barnsley and Southport.
‘Mad’ Mike is well known in the Greater Manchester Region for the struggles he has had with addiction and for inspiring people with his real life experiences.
He has a substantial social media presence which he uses to try and impact others in a positive way.
Phenix has only been in the team for a short while but is already becoming a fan favourite for the prolific goals he has scored.
His sense of humour has also endeared him to many around the club.
“We are delighted to officially welcome Mike to the club,” said an official.
“He has already fit in very well and we are all looking forward to seeing his excellent skills on display.
“Everyone at the club wants Mike to succeed on and off the pitch and we will do everything to help him achieve his goals while positively encouraging him with his recovery.”
