ROUGHYEDS boss Sean Long hailed Sunday’s big win over Keighley as their “best performances of the season”, writes Kasey Smith.

Oldham scored seven tries as they put Cougars to the sword to go three points clear at the top of League One with just six games left to go.

And Long praised his side’s work ethic after he spoke in the aftermath of the win.

“We were really hungry to get the win,” he said. “We know we have a talented team, but they are also working their backsides off for each other and they’re getting their reward for it.

“It was probably one of the best performances of the season and up there with the Hunslet game earlier on in the season.

“We stripped it right back because we know Keighley are a good side. I felt we did the basics right – our defence was on point, completion rate high and we just stuck to the process.

“It’s all the stuff we’ve put in place during pre-season. We started in November and it’s been a long journey – there’s still lads who are learning and getting better. But I’m over the moon they’ve come up with that performance.”

Long also praised debutants Riley Dean and Adam Sidlow as well as Dixon who played his second Yeds game.

“Riley did really well considering he only got off the plane on Tuesday,” added Long. “I thought he was really calm which allowed Craven to play his normal, natural game. And Sidlow really helped us get on the front foot – I thought both debutants were outstanding.

“Dixon is going to be a fans favourite for sure, he slots the goals, his yardage carries got us out of a bit of trouble too.”
