Reagan Ogle says it is full steam ahead of him now after recovering from a pre-season injury setback.

The right back's Latics career got off to a delayed start when a minor strain he felt during the training camp at St Andrew's meant having to sit out the final two days in Scotland and miss the first pre-season friendly at home to Stockport County.

Ogle, who signed from Scunthorpe United at the end of a long Latics pursuit, was not risked in the midweek friendly at Warrington Rylands.

But the Australian was fit enough to make his first appearance in an Oldham shirt at home to League One Lincoln City, and he is looking to build on his impressive first-half performance as Latics build up to the new season, with friendlies this week at Southport tomorrow night (Tuesday, kick-off 7.30pm) and at National League North newcomers Radcliffe on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

"It's just good to finally get out there. Missing the first two games was obviously not what I wanted but everything's all right now so I'm just happy to get out there," said Ogle, who signed a two-year deal at Boundary Park.

"On the ball I feel like I'm going to get a lot sharper. I've just got to take it in my stride, it's minutes in the tank and I'm looking forward to the next games.

"The boys go out there and even though it is a pre-season game we've got to gel as a team, as new faces, so you know the patterns of play we've got to implement and I thought we did those well (against Lincoln)."

Manager Micky Mellon has favoured a back three this summer, and Ogle believes it is a system that complements the squad.

"Obviously we work on it a lot in training so that helps. I enjoy wing back, it's a bit of everything for me," he said.

"It's something I've played in the past here and there - I've probably been more full back than not so it's just that attacking side that I've got to make sure I get down pat. I'm comfortable with the defending side.

"Going forward I think we're only going to get better and better at it the more we play together so it should be good.

"We're trying to dictate the play, control the game. We don't have to boom it forward every time. There are going to be times when we need to do that, take the pressure off, but we want to go out and control the game.

"So far we're doing things right and that, as a team, is what we want to implement.

"We've got everything in line to make sure we do that throughout the whole season, and that's the plan."
