Latics boss Micky Mellon has confirmed that strikers James Norwood and Joe Garner are both recovering from injuries and have not yet been involved in full pre-season training.

The duo missed the squad's trip to St Andrew's last week, and the five-day training camp ahead of the first friendly at home to Stockport, which they both attended and watched from the stands.

Both are undergoing treatment as part of their rehabilitation, with Garner recovering from surgery to repair a shoulder under, while last season's top scorer Norwood tore a calf muscle on the first day of pre-season training.

"Joe unfortunately picked an injury up towards the end of last season. He's got a shoulder injury that's been operated on," said Mellon.

"There was no point him (going to Scotland) because he wasn't even driving.

"He's a few weeks away.

"James Norwood on the first day back got a calf injury. We believe he's going to be a few weeks yet before he comes back and joins us so he didn't make the trip with us, which was disappointing, but these things happen in football and you've just got to get on with it."

Latics have a couple of other absentees in pre-season games.

Summer signing Reagan Ogle has not featured in either friendly after picking up a knock halfway through last week's training camp. Goalkeeper Magnus Norman played in the second half at Warrington Rylands on Tuesday after missing the Stockport game with a hand injury. Oli Hammond went off before half-time at Rylands as a precaution, while Tom Conlon and Josh Lundstram were also rested in midweek. Lundstram had played the full 90 minutes against Stockport, while Conlon had required treatment after a challenge.
