Reagan Ogle and Magnus Norman both missed the opening friendly due to injury.

Summer signing Ogle picked up a knock in training on Wednesday during the squad's week at St Andrew's, while goalkeeper Norman took a blow to his hand on the eve of the game.

Ogle's injury left Latics without a natural right back, and led to manager Micky Mellon starting with three centre halves in the 1-0 win against newly promoted Stockport County.

Of Ogle's absence, Mellon said: "He's injured. We've got a couple of injuries.

"That kind of made up our mind about how we were going to play (against Stockport) really.

"I don't care how we play as long as we pass the ball and look like scoring goals. But Reagan kind of determined how we were going to play because he's had a niggle since Wednesday.

"We practiced this way of playing a bit Thursday and Friday and we said that was how we were going to go in this game, just to have a look and see if we can play this when we want, when we need. But we'll also probably look at playing four at the back as well.

"I'd love to have an adaptable team that you felt you could switch it.

"We look like we've got a version of that system to play. I want to pass it now."

Asked about Norman, Mellon added: "He's injured, he got kicked in the hand yesterday (Friday)."

Last season's top scorer James Norwood had a watching brief after suffering a calf injury on the first day of pre-season training, while fellow striker Joe Garner is recovering from shoulder surgery. Neither made the trip to St Andrew's with the rest of the squad.
