Avro FC first team captain Jake Cottrell said he ‘cannot wait’ to take to the field for his side again in the upcoming season, writes Rob Currell.

The centre midfielder will be going into his fourth season with Avro FC.

He has previously played for FC United of Manchester for four seasons before spending seven with Chorley.

He cites the play-off promotion match against Lincoln United as his favourite moment at Avro FC so far.

“The squad is full of good lads and I think we could be involved at the top of the table at the end of this season,” said Cottrell.

“We are happy that our skipper will be back for the upcoming campaign and can’t wait to see him lead the team on the field,” said a spokesman from the club.

Cottrell follows Kane Wallwork and Ethan Kershaw who committed their futures to the Vestacare Stadium club last weekend.

Also wearing Avro colours again for the 2024/25 campaign are midfielder Jamie Rother, club captain Sam Rathbone, Liam Ellis and Geffry Ebhote.

Kane Hickman, who played for Avro as a youngster, is returning to the club while Matty Crothers announced last month that he was leaving.

Meanwhile, Avro football club will be holding its annual summer golf day at Brookdale Golf Club on Friday, August 9 .

The tournament will tee off at 12pm and will be in a four ball format with 72 golfers.

A spokesman from the club said the event was normally a fun filled day with a raffle.

“There are numerous prizes including many golfing items such as clothing,” said the spokesman.

“There is a bottle of wine, course prizes and various items of memorabilia in the raffle.

“We have held the tournament at this course numerous times and they are always welcoming.

“We are delighted to announce another annual golf day at this brilliant course.

“The aim is for everyone to enjoy the day, no matter the level of golf you are operating at as the handicap system is employed.

“It should give every team fair chance to win on the day or just enjoy and play for fun.

“Ultimately the day is to try our very best to raise funds to help the club. Avro is a community club and offers a lot of great things to many people.”
