Micky Mellon has been putting his players through their paces in the first week of pre-season.

Latics have had double sessions most days, doing fitness work and ball work, before preparations step up a notch with a five-day training camp in Scotland at St Andrew's.

Boundary Park and Latics' Chapel Road training ground have been their bases this week, with fitness assessments on all players carried out on the first day back.

Manager Micky Mellon has put a focus on fitness to ensure Latics can go the distance this season and not fall away like they did in the last two months of the 2023/24 campaign.

New signings Reagan Ogle, Josh Kay, Manny Monthe and Harry Charsley have been welcomed into the club, having all signed two-year deals, and with a number of free agents on trial more signings are expected in the coming days and weeks as manager Mellon looks to build a team and squad that can challenge for promotion back to the Football League at the third attempt.

And as well as Nathan Sheron and Mark Shelton leaving on permanent deals, to Hartlepool and Barnet respectively, and Joe Nuttall joining Altrincham on a season-long loan, there could be more contracted players leaving the club to make way for new faces, with Mellon delivering the overhaul that he promised last season.

Dan Ward is the latest to leave Boundary Park, returning to his native north east after signing for National League North side South Shields.
