TWO key players have penned new deals with Avro for the forthcoming Northern Premier League West campaign writes Rob Currell.

Experienced midfielder Jamie Rother and club captain Sam Rathbone have agreed to stay at the club for the 2024/25 season.

Rother was considering retiring but the central midfielder told Avro FC’s media team that he has decided to stay on board for the new campaign.

“After some long conversations over retirement I’ve decided to stay,” said Rother.

“It is a great club with some top people and it is only heading one way.”

Rother has previously played for Salford City and Ramsbottom United and was a part of the promotion winning team against Lincoln United.

Defender and club captain Rathbone has also agreed to a new deal for the upcoming season with the Oldham side.

Rathbone confirmed that he will again be a part of the flying squad for the 2024/2025 campaign.

The footballer made Avro FC history when he was the first player ever to score in the FA Cup for The Ro.

Rathbone said it was ‘an easy decision’ to commit to the only club he has played for and that he was enjoying his time at Avro FC.

He added that his fondest memory of playing at the club so far was when the side won the play-off final and gained promotion a couple of seasons back.
