IN HONOUR of the late Rob Burrow, Oldham managing director Mike Ford and chairman Bill Quinn are to take part in a sponsored walk from Boundary Park to the Crown Oil Arena, next month, writes Kasey Smith.

Organised by the Yeds Supporters Group, the sponsored walk aims to raise money in the fight against MND (motor neurone disease) as a tribute to Rob.

Former Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain rugby league great Rob Burrow, 41, had lived with MND since December 2019, until his death last week.

Since his diagnosis, the eight-time Super League Grand Final winner helped raise nearly £20m in the fight to find a cure, and was awarded a CBE in the most recent New Years Honours List for his work.

Alongside the walk, which will take place on the day Oldham and Rochdale face off at the Crown Oil Arena on July 28, Roughyeds will also be holding seven bucket collections in a bid to raise £7,000.

Money raised from the collections, in each of Oldham’s seven remaining home games, will go to the fight against MND.

Roughyeds chairman Bill Quinn, said: “In tribute to Rob – and long may his legacy continue in the fight against MND — we can all be part of trying to find a cure for such a terrible disease.”

The Yeds Supporters Group have urged fans of all colours to join the walk, which costs just £5 to participate.

Those interested in joining in, or sponsoring the event, can do so by signing up via www.yedsgroup.com, or their Facebook page.

All proceeds from the Yeds walk, as well as the bucket collections, will go to the charities fighting the disease.
