ROUGHYEDS may have bodies back this weekend with winger Mo Agoro nearing a return to first team action, writes Kasey Smith.

Agoro has missed Oldham’s last two games through an abdominal injury, but with that now subsiding he could return to face Newcastle this Sunday.

The recent pause in games has come at a good time for Roughyeds, given their growing injury list.

Oldham, who made a blistering start to the League One season beating promotion-chasing sides comfortably, have hit a blip in recent weeks.

Looking at the long list of casualties, it was perhaps inevitable there would be a setback, especially given the sides around them, namely Keighley, were bolstering their ranks with players such as George Flanagan and Izaac Farrell.

Included in the extensive injury list are Oldham’s captain and vice-captain, Jordan Turner and Joe Wardle – two players who have been crucial in Sean Long’s side so far this year.

Also out are Ted Chapelhow, Adam Lawton, Pat Moran, Kian Morgan, Jumah Sambou and Mackenzie Yei.

The good news is a large chunk of those casualties may make their return in the coming weeks.

Captain Turner, who has been sidelined with a twisted knee, may not be far off and is expected to be back ahead of Oldham’s run of three huge home games against Hunslet, North Wales and Keighley.

Chapelhow, who recently signed a one-year contract extension, could also make his return after a dead leg injury kept him out of the 25-24 win over North Wales.

Sambou, recovering from a long-term ACL injury sustained prior to signing for Oldham, is also nearing a return to full fitness.

Wardle and Moran are not expected to be back ahead of this weekend, with the club not wanting to rush their injuries.

Despite Yei having completed his four-game suspension – which was attained before signing for Oldham – he still has some way to go on his road to recovery as he is still nursing a knee injury.
