CAPTAIN Jordan Turner believes Oldham are far from the finished article, and have been using the recent pause in games to improve, ahead of a run of five games on the road, writes Kasey Smith

Roughyeds are currently top of League One – ahead of Keighley who have played a game extra – and have a remarkable defensive record with an average of just seven points conceded each match.

And while Oldham are on a run of six wins out of six – a feat not seen since the promotion winning year of 2019 – player-assistant coach Turner wants to see more from the side.

“Our discipline and unforced errors is an area of focus for us,” he explained. “But we’re not thinking out of the box at the minute.

“We set a plan out at the start of the year and we have been working on our core systems during this break to tune up as well as getting some metres into the legs and opening up the lungs.”

“Don’t get me wrong, we’re sitting in a good position at the minute and it’s exactly where we want to be.

“But we’ve had a couple of sticky games such as the ones against Cornwall and Midlands and it is never going to be plain sailing all the time.

“The main thing from those games is we’ve got results and we’ve actually learnt a lot more from them than we have done after blow-out scores.”

Roughyeds have a chance to extend their advantage over Keighley in this next run of games, when they face each other on May 26 where Oldham will be hoping to hit their peak performance.

There will be a strong Oldham support at Cougar Park, with two Yeds Supporters Group coaches already sold out and a third already over half full and many more making their own way to the ground.
