Latics have completed the signing of former Portsmouth and Sheffield United right-back Kieron Freeman.
The 31-year-old, who has played in all four of the top divisions in England, has put pen to paper over a six-month deal at Boundary Park.
Freeman came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest before heading to Derby in 2012. After three years at Pride Park, he moved to Sheffield United.
The defender was part of two promotion winning squads at Bramall Lane. The first came in 2016/17 as the Blades coasted to the League One title, reaching the 100-point milestone. He scored 10 of their 92 goals in the league.
The second came a couple years later as Chris Wilder’s side booked their place in the Premier League after finishing second in the Championship.
Freeman went on to have stints at Swansea and Swindon before heading to Portsmouth, making 32 appearances in two seasons at Fratton Park.
He was released at the end of his contract earlier this summer and will now wear the number 23 shirt for Latics.
Latics are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Aldershot Town to Boundary Park (3pm).
