DAVID Unsworth says chalking off his first point in full-time management was no consolation after describing Latics' performance in the 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United as "not good enough".
Oldham had taken an early lead through on-loan defender David Okagbue only to go in 2-1 down at the break.
Ben Tollitt salvaged a point from the penalty spot after Mike Fondop was fouled in the area.
But having performed well in a dramatic late defeat to leaders Wrexham on Saturday Unsworth was disappointed and frustrated that they could not back it up.
"Not good enough," he said. "But if we couldn't win it's that old saying, don't lose. There were some choice words spoken at half-time, quite rightly as well. They had to know that I wasn't happy at all, not just the fans, I can assure you I wasn't happy.
"There was some reaction, fair play, we got a goal and we should have won the game. But I now know what we're all about.
"One mistake and we crumble. One mistake and the whole team seems to put their heads down and that epitomises what's gone before, probably what happened last year and the year before, so at some point we've got to stop and it's up to us to do that."
And Unsworth, who sent his players out early for the second half after administering some harsh words, added: "We got off to a great start, we were playing some okay football and then we absolutely just crumble. It tells me everything I need to know. It tells me about individuals and it tells me about the team. It's a big job, and as much as we're at the start of October I want to turn it around yesterday, but it's going to take some time and we need to get our best players fit, and they're not fit at the moment and they're not ready.
"We're taking a bit of pain at the moment. I'll take all that. I don't want the players to take that, I'll take it all. My shoulders are big and I can burden that. But what I can't have is people crumbling on the pitch. That's not what we're all about and that's not what my team's about either."
