OLDHAM Athletic Football Club AND Boundary Park could have a new owner before the start of the season, after both Abdallah Lemsagam and stadium landlords Brass Bank Ltd agreed to sell.
An as yet unnamed local businessman has come forward with the cash for both entities and a deal is in place, with the aim of completion for both the club and the ground within the next four weeks.
The process has been sped up by Latics owner Lemsagam and previous owner Blitz, who owns Brass Bank, agreeing "to make significant compromises to enable the sale of Oldham Athletic Football Club and Boundary Park Stadium to be consolidated under one single ownership."
Oldham Athletic had begun legal action against Brass Bank in an effort to claim ownership of the North Stand at Boundary Park and ending a long-standing dispute between Blitz and Lemsagam over rental arrangements and usage.
Lemsagam, who has presided over two relegations since completing his takeover of Latics in 2018, was aiming to wrestle control of the stand so that matchday and all other income went to the club.
There had been further controversy attached to the North Stand following the recent announcement that it would be closed for the 2022/23 season - a decision which had heightened tensions between the club and supporters, who had already planned a mass boycott of Boundary Park until a new owner was found.
That day has come, and Oldham Athletic is set to have the slate wiped clean on all fronts.
The identity of the club and stadium's new owner has not yet been made public, but is described as "a longstanding, successful local business". It is not a consortium.
The identity of the business is set to be made public on completion of the Share Purchase Agreements and the Owners and Directors Test approval.
A statement reads: "Both parties have been true to their word with a genuine willingness to sell.
"Oldham Council have been notified of the process the whole time and have been very supportive in helping bring all parties together.
"Heads of Terms are agreed and funds are in place for the purchase of both Oldham Athletic Football Club and Brass Bank ltd - the owners of Boundary Park Stadium.
"Target completion of the purchase is less than four weeks.
"Season ticket sales, all club sponsorship and commercial activity will be reopened once completion has taken place."
Head coach John Sheridan is understood to have the backing of the new owner.
The statement adds: "This announcement is aimed to reduce speculation and provide long term certainty which will help John Sheridan continue to build a competitive squad."
