OLDHAM Athletic fans planning to attend the club’s penultimate away game of a dire season at Tranmere Rovers are being asked to wear black as a symbol of mourning the loss of the club’s Football League status.

Supporters have staged various protests against the club's regime over the course of the season, including a mass demonstration outside of Boundary Park in September last year in which a coffin bearing the plaque 'RIP OAFC' was carried to club's front door.

The pressure eventually led to Abdallah Lemsagam announcing in January that he was prepared to sell the club and would listen to offers.

Since then John Sheridan returned to take charge and fans opted to get behind the club legend and back the team's bid to avoid dropping out of the EFL for the first time in their history.

But with the writing on the wall for relegation supporters staged a pitch invasion before the end of last weekend's home game with Salford City.

And after relegation was confirmed by a 2-1 defeat at Boundary Park, with the final minutes played behind closed doors, fans are ready to ramp the pressure back up in their attempts to force a change of ownership, starting with a visual display at Prenton Park tomorrow.

A statement from fans' group Push The Boundary read: “On Saturday, our 115 year stay in the Football League came to an incredibly sad end. Despite how turbulent the season was, and the glimmer of hope that John Sheridan gave us, there was an air of inevitability following years of mismanagement by Abdallah Lemsagam and the current/previous board of directors.

“These people sit in the shadows, they do not take responsibility, they do not attend games in public view and they continue to make decisions that have left the reputation of our football club in the gutter.

“They do not care about us. This proud football is nothing but a toy, that they have seen fit to ruin over a period of four years.

“The only people who truly suffer in all of this is the passionate, loyal fanbase that have followed, supported and sadly had to endure everything that has been thrown at them under our current regime.

“Following Saturday’s sad events, and the fact that the game holds no significance, as a symbolic gesture we want to make Saturday a black parade. We’d like everyone to wear black clothing to mourn the death of our once proud, EFL status. Kit yourself out in black jumpers, t-shirts, polo shirts, black Latics kits, black trainers, whatever you see fit to raise attention to our current situation. We have spoken to the Athleticos that are happy to support this course of action and we thank them for that.

“We’d encourage you to spread the word all around the fanbase and try to make this as symbolic as possible.

“Alongside this, we obviously encourage you to make your voices heard about the current regime and to show them that the only viable solution from here, is to sell the club and move on.

“Supporters, with the help of supporter groups, will continue to mobilise and build its own future. One that the Lemsagams were never capable of providing.”
