DANNY Rogers says Oldham Athletic's players need to "take responsibility" for the club becoming the first former Premier League side to be relegated from the Football League.
Both Rogers and Dylan Bahamboula were the first Oldham Athletic players to speak out following relegation from the Football League.
While a post-match press conference was not held by either side in the aftermath of Saturday's defeat to Salford City after a pitch invasion caused the game to finish almost four hours after it started, with the final minutes played behind closed doors, the club board only made an official statement two days on.
Both Bahamboula and goalkeeper Rogers took to Twitter to express their feelings after Latics' challenge to stay in League Two fell short with two games to go.
Bahamboula, who was not named in the matchday squad against Salford and has only featured once in April, was the first to take to Twitter.
On Sunday, the Congo international wrote: "Sad for you fans, this season individually and collectively didn't live up to expectations, just a word to say, 'sorry' I hope the club will come back as soon as possible because you really don't deserve this."
Rogers, who has made some crucial saves since being drafted back into the line-up under John Sheridan, also tweeted: "This season was simply not good enough.
"Us players need to take responsibility for the performances but ultimately it’s the fans who suffer the most.
"There is not much I can say as the damage is already done. Next season is a chance to rebuild and bounce back."
