Harry Potter fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the new TV series which is currently in the works with HBO and to see who will take on the roles of the iconic characters.

While the new Harry Potter TV series, based on the seven books by JK Rowling, is not expected to be released until 2024/25, speculation has already begun as to who will take on the roles of the popular characters. 

Rumours have already linked actors/actresses such as Adam Driver, Bronte Carmichael and Tom Felton to roles in the series. 

While bookmakers have thrown names like Nick Frost, Bill Nighy and Charles Dance into the mix to take on the roles including Voldemort and Dumbledore.

Harry Potter TV series cast

According to Radio Times, rumours have hinted at Toby Woolf taking on the role of Harry Potter - previously played by Daniel Radcliffe - in the upcoming TV series

British actress Bronte Carmichael (Andor and Game of Thrones) is rumoured to be taking over from Emma Watson as Hermione. 

While Joshua Pickering (Peter Pan and Wendy) is rumoured to be taking on the role of Ron Weasley, previously played by Rupert Grint.

Adam Driver (Kylo Ren in Star Wars) is another actor linked to the new Harry Potter TV series with rumours suggesting he could fill the role of Professor Severus Snape.

Snape was played by the late Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter films.

Tom Felton (The Flash) who played Draco Malfoy in the films is rumoured to be returning to the Potterverse this time as his on-screen father Lucius.

Bookmakers have had their say on who they believe will fill the remainder of the roles. 

British actor Nick Frost (Paul and Shaun of the Dead) is the favourite to play Rebeus Hagrid.

Frost is a 2/1 favourite to take on the role vacated by the late Robbie Coultrane ahead of the likes of Rory McCann (4/1), Nick Offerman (5/1) and Zach Galifianakis (13/2) according to betting site OLBG

Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones) is the favourite to take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, a position previously filled by Michael Gambon and Richard Harris in the Harry Potter films and more recently by Jude Law in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

While Harry Potter's nemesis, Lord Voldemort is expected to be played by Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean and Love Actually) according to OLBG odds. 

Nighy is a 3/1 favourite to take on the role ahead of Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, Sherlock and The Hobbit) and Ralph Fiennes who played the role of Voldemort in the films.

Nighy has also already appeared in the Harry Potter films, featuring briefly in the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 as Rufus Scrimgeour.
