An 18-year-old has died following a crash in Rochdale, with a man and a teenager arrested on suspicion of causing his death by dangerous driving.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that at around 9.15pm last night (Tuesday, December 3), officers responded to a report of a theft of a car on William Greenwood Close in Heywood.

A short pursuit took place as police chased a Toyota Aqua Hybrid which failed to stop.

The Toyota then crashed with a Volkswagen on Manchester Road, Rochdale.

The 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two people were arrested.

A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have both been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and associated driving offences including aggravated vehicle taking, with the pair remaining in custody for questioning.

The driver of the Volkswagen Up did not receive any injuries and remained at the scene to assist officers with their investigations.

Referrals have been made to GMP's Professional Standards Directorate and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
