United Utilities has provided an update on a burst water pipe which caused the closure.
Oldham Council asked residents to avoid Featherstall Road South and Arkwright Street after a pipe had burst at the roundabout of the two streets.
The roads were closed for the majority of yesterday afternoon and remain closed today.
United Utilities has said that the problem has been found to be more complicated than it initially presented and that they are working to fix the issue.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “There was a burst on a water main which affected supplies to some properties in the area.
"We have engineers currently on site and we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption, and we thank people for their patience.”
The roads are open to traffic until the roundabout which is the location of the engineering works to repair the pipe.
United Utilities said yesterday evening that they had been able to restore the service to affected properties.
They have said they cannot confirm when the road will be able to open again.
