A police investigation has been launched after a woman died in Oldham.

Emergency services were sent to an address on Honeywell Lane in Hathershaw in the early hours of Saturday following a "concern for the welfare of a woman".

A woman in her 40s was found dead and her death is being "treated as non-suspicious".

A forensic tent has been set up in the area.

A 35-year-old man was arrested but he was released with no further action.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman from an address on Honeywell Lane in Oldham in the early hours of Saturday.

"Emergency services attended and a woman in her 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her death is being treated as non-suspicious.

"Officers arrested a 35-year-old man at the scene, he has since been released with no further action.

"A file will be prepared and submitted to the coroner.

"A scene will remain in place on Honeywell Lane and we thank the public for their patience as we remain at the scene."

Residents along Honeywell Lane said the incident is "really upsetting" and that they are "thinking of the family of the woman who has died".
