Oldham pubs are asking customers to help them tackle loneliness this Christmas in a month of festive action.
The Proper Pubs brand has asked its pubs to take part in the campaign and many of our local boozers have answered the call.
With the scheme starting yesterday, Friday (November 15), the pubs are asking customers to write a Christmas card and message to someone facing isolation during the Christmas period.
The pubs are doing the hard bits, having crafted a list of recipients including those in hospitals, nursing homes and community groups.
They will also deliver the cards to their destinations, making it easy for anyone who wants to take part.
Pubs are often at the heart of the communities, particularly in rural areas and a recent study by think-tank Localis found that 68 per cent of British adults think that pubs help to combat loneliness in their area.
Proper Pubs is an award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which has over 200 pubs across England, Scotland, and Wales.
Over the past two years, Proper Pubs has donated almost 40,000 Christmas selection boxes to local charities, with thousands more set to be donated this year, through the kind generosity of its community members.
The Oldham pubs taking part are:
- Bear On The Hill
- Pineapple Inn
- Town Hall Tavern
- Cotton Tree Inn
- Bricklayer's Arms
The cards will be sent out to their recipients on Sunday, December 15.
