A traffic light was also understood to have been knocked over in the crash and was seen lying by the side of the road, broken in half.
Other debris from the two cars littered the road.
Residents in the area said they were woken by an "almighty bang" and police sirens while witnesses said the crash was "bad".
Another said: "It must have been some force to knock down traffic lights."
The incident saw Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and other police cars from Greater Manchester Police called.
Emergency services then closed the road and put tape around the pedestrian car which remained in its position in the middle of Manchester Road and across a pedestrian traffic island.
GMP and GMFRS have been contacted for comment about the incident.
