October saw some major planning decisions made in Oldham, affecting people in different areas of the borough.

From a new supermarket to a long-standing traffic dispute, here are some of the key decisions made last month.

New cafe and shop at rural holiday park

A cafe, shop and leisure facility is set to open at an Oldham holiday park after a planning application was granted.

The facility will open in a building at Dovestone Holiday Park which was formerly being used as a dwelling and will still contain a two-bedroom apartment on the upper floor, which will be used for managers' housing.

The ground floor will be the site of the cafe, shop and leisure facility, which includes a lounge and games room.

It will be open 10am to 10pm, with the applicant saying it will create job opportunities for local people.

New Lidl supermarket coming to borough

A new Lidl supermarket is set to be developed in Oldham, creating around 40 full-time jobs.

The new supermarket, which will be the third Lidl in the borough, will be developed in Hollinwood, next to the M60.

The single-storey building, which will have 111 parking spaces, including six disabled bays and 10 parent and child spaces, will "improve customer choice and enhance the shopping experience for shoppers in Hollinwood and the neighbouring areas" according to an application report.

The plans were unanimously approved by Oldham Council's planning committee.

Decision on controversial traffic scheme

A long-running dispute over the implementation of a traffic-calming scheme in an Oldham neighbourhood has taken its next step.

A housing development with 23 new homes has been built off Haven Lane, Moorside, in recent years, but there has been a dispute over the implementation of a traffic-calming scheme, which was a condition of the development being approved back in 2016.

Now, planning committee members have approved a scheme to complete the process of designing the scheme within the next 12 months, with the applicant looking to do away with the traffic scheme all together.

The approval of the second application means that within the next 12 months, the process of drawing up a scheme and the consultation process with residents and the Traffic Regulation Order must be completed before it can then be implemented.
