Traffic along three motorways was delayed for more than an hour this morning after a six-car crash.

The traffic was temporarily halted across lanes 3 and 4 of the motorway after the crash, which occurred near to junction 18 at Heywood.

No injuries were reported and no drivers or passengers required hospital treatment, North West Ambulance service said.

A Highways England spokesperson said: "Motorists are warned of continuing delays on the M62 this morning following a multi-vehicle collision involving six-cars at Junction 18 (Heywood).

"The incident happened at 7am leading to the closure of lanes 3 and 4 of the four-lane motorway.

"All emergency services were in attendance. All lanes have just reopened with all vehicles recovered.

"However, the incident has impacted journey times on the M62, M60 and M61, with 85 minutes above usual journey times presently recorded on the M60 clockwise between Junction 12 and Junction 13.

"There are also delays of around 20 minutes above usual journey times on the M61 southbound between Junction 1 and the M60."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service also attended the incident, at around 7.15am.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 7.15am this morning (Tuesday 5 November), two fire engines from Whitefield and Heywood fire stations were attended a crash involving six vehicles on Junction 18 eastbound of the M62.

“Firefighters worked quickly to make the area safe and there were no reported injuries. Crews were in attendance for roughly 45 minutes."

Traffic on multiple motorways was affected, with congestion stretching as far back as Eccles Interchange in both directions. 

According to Google Maps traffic report, traffic has now returned back to normal.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
