United Utilities has released an update on a grid that has been causing 'carnage' due to it being surrounded by barriers for months.
The grid, on Hollins Road, has been surrounded by barriers for almost seven months and has been causing issues to traffic due to its position in the centre of the eastbound carriageway.
Last month, Lee Newsome said the grid was originally damaged around nine months ago and that cars were 'almost losing their suspension' when going over it due to the deep dip in the road.
At that time, the grid had been blocked off for around six months, according to Mr Newsome.
The grid remains blocked off, with Ashley Ferris, who travels down Hollins road every day as part of his commute, saying it's still making traffic an 'absolute nightmare'.
Mr Ferris said: "It doesn't seem to be being maintained at all, the barriers have been all across the road before.
"Especially where the location is, really close to a motorway exit, traffic there is a nightmare even on the best of days so this as well, having to go into the other lane, causes what should be a 10-15minute drive home to be almost double."
Now, United Utilities has said the grid will be repaired tomorrow (October 29).
After initially stating that the grid wasn't under United Utilities ownership, further investigations revealed it was.
The company said an original job was raised with the wastewater network team who on initial investigation found it to be full of silt and referred it back to Oldham Council.
The company said that wastewater manholes do not tend to become filled with silt.
Once the manhole had been cleared, they said a team went to carry out investigations and found the manhole to be an old air valve, which will now be repaired.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “Following an initial delay due to investigations we can confirm that repairs will take place on 29 October.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The repairs will include multi-way signals on Hollins road, near to the entrance of Cardigan Road and is listed as beginning October 29 and ending October 30.
