Plans to turn a former iron works into a new MOT test centre and vehicle repairs garage have been approved.
The Star Iron Works building on Greenacres Road will now be home to an MOT testing centre and vehicle repairs garage and will have a small amount of work completed on the exterior.
Approved plans outlined a change of use from a storage unit to the new garage as well as the installation of a new roller shutter on the front right side of the building.
The building was previously being used entirely for storage purposes, some of which will be retained under the new plans.
With the building made up of two parts, the left side will now have interior parking spaces added as well as be the site for the MOT testing area.
The right side of the building will retain the forward half for storage but change a rear storage room for vehicle repair usage.
The new roller shutter will replace two lower level windows to add a new vehicle access point at the front of the building.
The shutters are subject to a condition of approval stating that they may not be brought into use until further details of their construction has been approved.
The council's notice of approval for this application stated this was to avoid the level of noise produced by their operation becoming 'excessive and detrimental' to the amenity of nearby residents.
Shutters will also be made of black aluminium and will include an internal shutter box above.
The application was submitted to Oldham Council on July 29 and was approved on Tuesday (October 23).
Amended plans were submitted to supersede the original plans, which outlined further dimensions as well as the full land connected to the building also owned by the applicant, Kamran Hussain.
It is not yet known when the new MOT centre and garage will open but work must begin within three years, as in line with planning refulations.
The garage opening hours are approved to be 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am till 4pm on Sundays and Bank holidays.
