Two people have been arrested and a man is believed to have sustained 'life changing' injuries after a crash in Chadderton last night (October 22).

Three scenes remain in place this morning (October 23) on Denton Lane, Lansdowne Court and Apfel Lane after the incident. 

A man and woman, both in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. 

A man was taken to hospital with what is believed to be life-changing injuries after he was allegedly assaulted at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed there was a crash between two vehicles at around 11.30pm last night on Denton Lane, which remains closed in both directions from Walsh Lane to Gorton Street, according to Google Maps. 

A spokesperson for the force said: "At 11.30pm last night (Tuesday 22 October) we were called to reports of collision between two vehicles on Denton Lane in Oldham.

"It’s believed that a man was assaulted at the scene. He was taken to hospital for further treatment. His injuries are believed to be life-changing. 

"A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. They remain in police custody. 

"Three scenes remain in place on Denton Lane, Lansdowne Court, Apfel Lane.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they attended the scene to make one of the vehicles safe. 

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At around 11.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 22 October), one fire engine from Chadderton station was called to reports of a crash involving two cars on Denton Lane in Oldham.

"Firefighters worked to make one of the vehicles safe while Greater Manchester Police cordoned the area. The driver of one of the vehicles rescued themselves prior to fire service arrival. Crews were in attendance for roughly 50 minutes."

Earlier today, traffic in the area was reported to be severely affected by the accident and road closure, and was moving very slowly for around 0.2 miles from the closure, according to Google Maps.

North West Ambulance Service have also been approached for comment
