All of these cases involving people from Oldham have been before the magistrates in the last fortnight.

A man who was caught carrying a knife in an Oldham discount retail store has been sentenced.

Mohammed Jakir, of Westfield Street, Chadderton, entered the B&M store on Chadderton Way on September 16 while carrying a four-inch lock knife.

The 25-year-old was caught carrying the knife and was arrested.

At Tameside Magistrates' Court on October 10, Jakir pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place.

He was handed a community order, requiring him to attend 10 days of rehabilitation activity requirement, while the knife was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

Jakir was also made to pay a fine of £120, a victim surcharge of £114 and court costs of £85, bringing his total costs to £319.

A man who racially abused a police officer has been sentenced.

Kadeem Buckley, of Thorp Road, Alt, racially abused the police officer in Oldham on November 26 last year.

On October 10 at Tameside Magistrates' Court, the 27-year-old pleaded guilty to racially aggravated intentional harassment and was sentenced.

He was issued conditional discharge for 18 months, meaning if the offender commits another crime, they can be sentenced for the first offence and the new one, and was ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

A man who assaulted a police officer has been left hundreds of pounds out of pocket.

Wesley Wainwright, of Miriam Street, Failsworth, assaulted the male police officer in Bury on November 26 last year.

At Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on October 10, he pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker and was sentenced.

He was made to pay a fine of £450, court costs of £120 and compensation to the police officer of £100, making his total costs £670.
