A Chadderton centre restaurant will be replaced by a sunbed salon after a change of use application was approved.

The application was submitted on behalf of Sunseekers Sunbeds, a chain of sunbed businesses.

The company currently has 25 locations across the North West, including nearby branches in Ashton-under-Lyne and Harpurhey.

They applied for a change of use of Unit 14 at Chadderton Precinct which was formerly occupied by Secret Burger, which specialised in beef and chicken burgers as well as Korean-style chicken wings and ramen.

However, the council's officer report states the unit is now vacant and the restaurant is listed as permanently closed on Google Maps.

Approval was given for the change of use on Wednesday (October 16) after the application received no objections and the council found that the proposal would be 'a more effective and efficient use of the site'.

The proposal would involve minimal work to the unit, with approval having been granted for the relocation of the front entrance door from the middle to the side.

The salon will be allowed to open Monday to Friday 9am to 9.30pm, Saturdays 9am to 7pm and Sundays and bank holidays 11am to 6pm.

It is expected there will be six lie-down tanning rooms at the site, as well as two stand-up rooms and two 'beauty' spaces, as outlined in the proposed floor plan.

Interior dividing walls will need to be erected for the salon's opening, as the current floor plan does not have the separated rooms required.

There would also be a number of existing interior walls removed to create the desired spaces.

It is not yet known when work will commence to open the salon and the application states this has not already started, but it must begin within three years of the approval date, as is regulation with planning approval.
