A long-running dispute over the implementation of a traffic-calming scheme in an Oldham neighbourhood will see its latest decision this week.

In recent years, the development of 23 new homes on land off Haven Lane, Moorside, has taken place and is nearly complete.

However, one of the conditions of the homes being built required the developer, Cube Homes, to create a traffic-calming scheme to deal with road safety in the area before they are allowed to rent or sell the houses.

Cube Homes has sought to bring a scheme forward, however, plans were rejected in June, despite the fact the scheme was designed by Oldham Council’s Highways Department and the developers.

Now, Cube Homes are looking to have the clause requiring a traffic-calming scheme removed entirely or amended.

An application, which will be decided on by the council's planning committee on Wednesday (October 16), seeks a ‘total removal of the condition’ or the conditions to be changed so that the measures must be completed ‘within 12 months of the final occupation of the approved dwellings’ instead of before it.

Cube’s consultant, Alisa Goudie, previously said the current conditions are 'stymieing the ability of Cube to occupy the properties and thus realise profit from the development’.

Residents in the area have been opposed to the previously proposed schemes to deal with road safety and the last proposal was rejected on the basis of the parking issues it would cause residents.

Planning committee members have been recommended to reject the application to remove the clause requiring a traffic-calming scheme, however the proposal to amend the clause has been recommended for approval.
