An iconic Grade II listed landmark and former pub in the heart of Manchester city centre is set to throw its 111-year-old doors back open following an exciting £1m makeover.

The legendary building on the corner of Oxford Road and Grosvenor Street is set to make a comeback and start a new chapter in its rich history, reopening next month as 'The Grosvenor', a cutting-edge hybrid hospitality and social space.

Built between 1913 and 1915, the Grosvenor Picture Palace was the largest cinema outside of London and in its most recent history, has transformed from a bingo hall and snooker venue to a favourite student pub, called The Footage.

The 800-capacity venue was acquired by an independent operator for just £1 and has been in the midst of a major £1m makeover.

Now, its 111-year-old doors will reopen again to an "adult playground", where visitors can expect to find an immersive concept with more than 30 beer taps, pool tables, beer pong, a photobooth, huge sports screens, "outrageous" interiors and even a slide to transport guests from the cinema's original balcony.

It is hoped The Grosvenor will continue its legacy as a top entertainment venue for another 100 years.

The venue will open from 12pm to 12am in the week, extending to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, with bottomless brunch and events teased in the line-up as well as special deals for students.

It is also hoped it will be the go-to destination for sports-mad fans in the city, as it will show sports from all channels and across all games while the venue's original stage will be used for a jam-packed entertainment schedule, including weekly iconic Manchester club nights, interactive quizzes and live music from local DJs and bands.

To drink, there will be local craft beers on draught and a substantial canned range as well as premium spirits, alcohol-free options and "show-stopping" cocktails.

As for food, the venue will serve a range of options such as sharers, buckets of wings, loaded pizzas and stacked burgers.

Ahead of the big launch next month, eager fans can get their hands on exclusive discounts and offers at the new venue by signing up via The Grosvenor website.

Chris Tulloch, Managing Director of the independent local operator behind the transformation, said: "The Grosvenor is in the midst of an incredible transformation, and we're creating something truly special for Manchester.

"Our vision is to blend the best aspects of a sports bar, social venue, and nightclub into one vibrant, unforgettable space where memories are made.

“As we breathe new life into this iconic building, we’re excited to continue its legacy as a cornerstone of Manchester’s entertainment, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in to eat, drink and have fun in the adult playground.”
